Ivy and Addie's Cafe: Pancakes!

We've had a bit of a "hankering" for pancakes lately, so we decided that today was a nice day for it.  After we pulled out all of the ingredients, I sat by the coffee machine with the recipe book while Ivy got to do the dirt work.  I did get distracted by getting a head start on the dishes, so we forgot to mix the egg with the oil and milk, but we remembered just as Ivy poured in the egg into the dry ingredients, so we just dumped in the oil and milk and stirred it all up.  We used the Better Homes & Gardens "New Cookbook" original pancake recipe.  It was really easy and uses only normal baking ingredients, so it is not much more difficult than making pancakes from a box.  We only made seven small pancakes, but three plus two sausages were enough to fill me up (without feeling stuffed).  Ivy had four pancakes, and we still had at least one more batch's worth of batter left - we ended up freezing it to use another day.

Several years ago, I had bought my brother a pancake pan with 7 small smiley-face impressions - a year or two ago, my mom was clearing our her house and told me that the pan really never got used, and since I had kids then we might enjoy the pan more than my brother had (my brother also has kids, and I always buy him goofy gifts!).  So we've used the pan a few times, since we don't make pancakes very often, and usually it is terrifying to try and flip a pancake that is stuck to the design!  But we did a great job today - I flipped the pancakes and helped her scoop out the last of the baking soda, but Ivy definitely did the heavy lifting (she opened a new bag of flour!).

And now that brunch was served and enjoyed, the dishes are done, and Ivy has her social media presence doing baby-steps, I think I'll see about mowing the yard.  We're having Kenny's delicious Chicken Alfredo for dinner tonight, and things always taste better when I feel that I've "earned" them through hard work.
